New Delhi, 11 January: Cybermedia Research (CMR), India’s premier technology market research and advisory firm, has revealed some compelling insights from its recent study, ‘The State of Smartphone OS User Experience. The study found that while 88% of Indian smartphone users are satisfied with their current smartphone OS, 71% of them are open to exploring and potentially changing their device based on the OS experience offered. This finding highlights the pivotal role that the smartphone OS plays in shaping overall user satisfaction and influencing purchasing decisions.

In this study encompassing 2571 smartphone users in major Indian cities, 83% of the users emphasized the significance of Smartphone OS for their satisfaction and delight. Notably, OnePlus’s OxygenOS emerged as the standout choice, preferred by 92% of users.

Smartphone users highly value intelligent OS enhancements that deliver seamless, lag-free experiences on their smartphones. Users also appreciate optimizations that enhance digital well-being and contribute to conserving battery life.”

Key Findings:

1. Key Smartphone OS considerations: Ease of usage (56%), security (54%) and faster launch time (54%) steer smartphone OS considerations for consumers.

2. Consumer Priorities: Indian users prioritize enhancing data security (65%) and boosting performance (62%) when updating their smartphone OS.

3.Smartphone OS Satisfaction Ratings: OnePlus OxygenOS scored highest in user satisfaction (92%), followed by Apple iOS (90%) and Samsung One UI  (87%). A notable 60% of consumers of non-OxygenOS users are aware of OxygenOS. Amongst them, 86% are open to choosing it for their next smartphone.

4. Drivers of Satisfaction: The primary reasons for satisfaction with OxygenOS include fast charging (59%), fast and smooth response (58%), and O-Relax (56%)

5. Challenges in Updating OS: Barriers to updating the OS include a perceived lack of need (42%) and insufficient storage space (35%).

” OxygenOS stands out as the preferred choice for smartphone users seeking a performance-driven, and user-centric operating system that enhances their overall digital well-being,” added Satya Mohanty, Head – Industry Consulting Group (ICG), Cybermedia Research (CMR).

For results based on the randomly chosen sample size of 2571 users, there is 99% confidence that the findings have a statistical precision of plus or minus 3%, accurately reflecting the sentiments of the broader population.

The study was conducted in Q4 2023, across six major cities in India: New Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Chennai, and Hyderabad.
