- SATA SSDs accounted for 72% of the market, while NVMe SSDs grew 6% sequential.
- External SSDs shipments growth 73% QoQ in Q2 2025.

Gurugram/New Delhi, August 28, 2025. India’s consumer SSD market is witnessing a strong upswing. According to CyberMedia Research’s (CMR) latest India Consumer SSD Market Review Report for Q2 2025, internal SSD shipments grew 8% quarter-on-quarter (QoQ) and a remarkable 101% year-on-year (YoY), underscoring the segment’s momentum. In parallel, external SSD shipments surged 283% YoY, reflecting rising adoption of high-speed, portable storage solutions.
According to Mukesh Sharma, Senior Analyst, Industry Intelligence Group (IIG), CyberMedia Research (CMR), “Internal SSDs continue to anchor growth in India’s consumer storage market. Driven by steady upgrades in personal systems and refresh cycles across SMBs and educational institutions, they have emerged as the preferred choice for reliable, high-performance storage. At the same time, external SSDs are gaining strong traction, powered by the rise of mobile content creation, gaming, and the growing need for fast, portable solutions. While tariff shifts and supply chain challenges are creating uncertainty in inventory planning and occasional supply tightness, consumer demand remains resilient—fueled by accelerating digital adoption, performance-driven upgrades, and the critical role of flash storage in everyday computing.”

SSD Flash Market Highlights Q2 2025:
- Internal SSDs: Crucial and SanDisk are neck-and-neck, each holding 13% market share, while smaller brands together commanded 64% of shipments.
- External SSDs: SanDisk held a commanding lead at 60%, with Crucial trailing at 16%.
- Form Factors: SATA SSDs continued to dominate at 72% share, even as NVMe SSDs posted 6% sequential growth.
Looking Ahead
CMR projects that consumer SSD shipments will experience steady growth, with internal SSDs expected to increase by 8% and external SSDs by around 18% by the end of CY 2025.
According to Bhaskar Negi, Analyst-Industry Intelligence Group (IIG), CyberMedia Research (CMR), “SSDs will remain central to India’s storage market. Internal SSDs will drive upgrades across households, SMBs, and education, while external SSDs will benefit from rising demand in content creation, gaming, and hybrid work. Despite near-term tariff and supply pressures, the long-term outlook is strong, underpinned by performance needs and a digital-first economy.”
