Gurugram/New Delhi, September 12, 2024. As per the latest CMR India DRAM Market Review by CyberMedia Research (CMR) for Q2 2024, the India consumer DRAM market faced a notable downturn in Q2 2024, experiencing a significant 23% quarter-on-quarter (QoQ) decline.

According to Mukesh Sharma, Analyst – Industry Intelligence Group at CyberMedia Research (CMR), “The DRAM consumer market declines is due to technological advancement and a significant contraction in PC market, where desktops remain the primary users of DRAM. The rise of branded laptop has further reduced demand for assembled PCs, shifting the focus of DRAM consumption towards OEMs and data centers. The lesser-known brands have emerged and recorded 58% of the market in Q2 2024. Despite these challenges, we expect consumer market recovery as new applications and technologies emerge.”

Looking ahead

The DRAM consumer market is expected to rebound, with projected single-digit YoY growth by the end of 2024.This growth is will be driven by upgrades to the latest DRAM versions for laptops and desktops.

“The increasing integration of AI and IoT technologies is fueling demand for faster, more efficient DRAM solutions for real-time edge processing. Additionally, the growing popularity of gaming and virtual reality (VR) in India is driving the need for high-performance DRAM in devices. As the digital economy continues to evolve, storage technologies will play a crucial role in driving innovation and progress,” added Pankaj Jadli, Analyst – Industry Intelligence Group at CyberMedia Research (CMR).

Notes for Editors

  1. Cyber Media Research (CMR) is a pioneering market intelligence and consulting firm that runs a comprehensive quarterly market update on the India Consumer Storage market. CMR’s India Quarterly Consumer DRAM Market Review covers Desktop DRAM and Laptop DRAM sold via distributors and retail outlets. The report accounts for ‘legal’ shipments but does not include bundled or ‘grey’ market shipments or units brought from abroad by individuals as a part of personal baggage.
  2. CMR uses the term “shipments” to describe the number of DRAM devices leaving the factory premises to OEM for direct manufactures and sales in channel by distributors and retailers. For the convenience of media, the term ‘shipment’ is sometimes replaced by “sales” in the press release, but this reflects the market size in terms of units of hard drive devices and not their absolute value.
