India has become a ripe market for AI products in 2025, as businesses across the board are integrating a variety of AI features into their products. On the other hand, the population is also getting used to AI’s existence in their everyday lives.
Google has taken cognizance of the growing market for AI in the country and is rolling out a wide range of Gemini-based tools. Be it generative AI-powered video content or voice command-based search options, Google is looking to integrate Gemini into almost all possible corners of the smart device ecosystem.
But how is Gemini’s advent into the Indian subcontinent different from its counterparts? Let’s take a look.
Understanding the Local Context
One of the main goals that Google is trying to achieve through its Gemini AI tools are engaging people in voice commands. The tech giant published studies that showed more than 40% of Indian AI users prefer to use voice commands over text. So, while other AI platforms such as ChatGPT and Meta are still relying on text as the primary mode of AI commands, Google is changing up the game.
With this in mind, Google has made Gemini available for use in Hindi and is also working towards seamlessly integrating other regional languages such as Bengali, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam, Gujarati, Urdu, etc. This is a huge leap in the right direction as not only will this allow for wider use of the Gemini AI tools, but it will actually provide the population with what they have been seeking all along – an AI tool that can perform online searches via voice commands.
These features are being combined with most of the popular Google products such as Maps, image search, food recommendations, etc. The Google merchant centre will also have these features rolled out soon enough, with exciting options such as transforming static photos into video animations.
A big Market with Bigger Opportunities
Google recently launched a framework for its Gemini program which showed that the Indian economy is capable of unlocking $4 trillion worth of value in the AI market. Currently, it is a race between ChatGPT, Meta and Google to take over this burgeoning market, and with the latest regionally focused advancements by Google, they are sure to take over their competitors.
Other aspects of the AI ecosystem that Google also aims to enhance through its various programs include compute capacity, open datasets, modernizing skills, inclusive AI access, and the likes. The tech giant stated that they look forward to more AI adoption by government entities and small to mid-sized enterprises.
