New Delhi/Gurugram, 20 May 2020: The COVID-19 pandemic predictably dented the tablet market in India in Q1 2020 marking a 24% quarter-on-quarter(QoQ) decline, initially with the supply chain challenges in China, and later on, with muted domestic demand owing to onset of lockdown in India, revealed the latest CMR’s Tablet PC Market Report Review for 1Q CY2020.
According to Menka Kumari,Analyst-Industry Intelligence Group (IIG), CMR, “The COVID-19 pandemic impacted the tablet market in India. Despite the gloomy market conditions, Lenovo continued to impress with its winning streak, on the back of the successful M series.”
Lenovo continued to hold the first place and to grow in the region, mainly driven by opportunities in the Healthcare and education sector. Lenovo M series has captured the overall tablet market. Its M10 (HD & FHD) series contributed upto 20% of Lenovo’s market share.
Samsung saw its market share decline 12% QoQ. Samsung has not launched any new tablets in CY2020. It needs to launch new models with new good features to regain market share.
iBall regained the third position for CY2020 with 11% market share however its overall sale declined 26%QoQ.
Shipments of Tablets with 6-7 inches display constituted 28% of the overall shipments in the India market. On the other hand, Tablets with 10-inch and above displays contributed to 45% of the shipments.
In Q2 2020, with the lockdown in place and stunted economic conditions, CMR believes tablet supply and consumer demand will be under pressure. CMR anticipates a 5-10% decline in the tablet shipments in Q2 2020. The tablet market is anticipated to pick-up in H2 2020, and driven by B2B and B2C segments alike.
“We believe, over the short- to mid-term, some tablet vendors will stand to benefit from the increased productivity demands in the new normal, including home learning and work from home requirements. In addition, there will be a potentially increased market demand from law enforcement and healthcare for COVID-19 counter-measures,” added Menka.
