Additionally, they highlighted their support for startups, facilitating their growth by providing a platform for flourishing. Finally, they emphasized their endeavors to create a sustainable work environment.

Ms. Sindhu Gangadharan, SVP & MD, SAP Labs India and Head, SAP User Enablement highlighted the remarkable efforts that SAP is undertaking in the realms of AI, support for startups, and sustainability during her presentation. She also underscored SAP’s strategic focus on India.

SAP’s commitment to India

India has risen to become the top choice for businesses primarily due to its compelling combination of factors. With a vast and diverse consumer market, a highly skilled workforce, and cost-effective labor, India offers a substantial competitive advantage. Government initiatives, infrastructure development, and favorable trade agreements further enhance its appeal. The nation’s burgeoning tech and innovation ecosystem, political stability, and a growing middle class contribute to its attractiveness. India’s unique blend of opportunities and challenges continues to position it as a premier destination for business expansion and investment, making it the first preference for many global companies looking to thrive in a dynamic and promising market.

Ms. Sindhu Gangadharan emphasized that SAP’s substantial investment in India is driven by the nation’s pivotal role in spearheading the digital revolution. India stands out as SAP’s fastest-growing region and boasts the largest contingent of researchers and developers within SAP, with 40% of the global R&D workforce based in the country.

Following the G20 summit, India has ascended as the world’s fastest-growing economy and now ranks as the second-largest digital economy globally. Furthermore, India is among the top three nations worldwide with a thriving startup ecosystem. Consequently, for a technology leader like SAP, it is imperative to maintain a strong presence in India to tap into this rich pool of global talent.

Unlocking AI and Gen AI Potential

AI plays a pivotal role in the IT sector by revolutionizing various facets of technology. As IT continues to evolve, AI’s adaptive capabilities and problem-solving prowess ensure that businesses stay agile and competitive, making it an indispensable part of the industry’s present and future landscape.

According to Ms. Sindhu Gangadharan, SVP & MD, SAP Labs India and Head, SAP User Enablement “AI is not just a technology, it’s a game changer”. India possesses a remarkable 16% share of the world’s total global AI talent pool, solidifying its status as a global leader in this field. Notably, India boasts the highest level of AI skill penetration among all nations. This is further underscored by India’s top-ranking position for AI talent availability within the country and its impressive fifth-place position in terms of AI research and scientific contributions to the field.

SAP currently operates the world’s largest business network, underscoring its prominence in global business operations. The company’s commitment to artificial intelligence (AI) has been a longstanding journey, with a focus on seamlessly integrating AI into the core of its business processes. This strategic approach positions SAP to lead the charge in advancing the concept of networked, interconnected, and sustainable enterprises, where intelligent technologies play a pivotal role in driving progress and efficiency.

Addressing the acceleration of Generative AI (Gen AI) within the mid-market sector, Ms. Sindhu Gangadharan emphasized the need for broader adoption among Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs). Gen AI’s transformative capabilities extend beyond just generating high-quality code; it encompasses the ability to provide comprehensive support, including data management, architectural diagrams, user stories, and documentation.

This holistic approach presents a remarkable opportunity for mid-market customers to harness Gen AI’s potential. It enables them to not only produce excellent code but also to strengthen it with the essential elements required for robust software development. This inclusive approach is particularly advantageous for SMEs, allowing them to unlock the full spectrum of benefits that Gen AI offers, ultimately driving innovation and efficiency in their operations.

Establishing a Secure and Sustainable Environment

Sustainability is vital for businesses because it ensures their long-term success and relevance. By adopting sustainable practices, companies reduce costs, enhance their reputation, and attract eco-conscious customers. Additionally, sustainability fosters innovation, drives operational efficiency, and helps businesses stay resilient in a changing world marked by environmental challenges and evolving regulations.

A striking 40% of SAP’s global patents originate from India, a testament to the country’s significant contributions to its innovation landscape. SAP’s commitment to innovation extends to every solution it develops for its diverse customer base across more than 25 industries. The primary goal is to empower enterprises to transform into fully networked organizations, operating in a manner that minimizes their carbon footprint. SAP strives to provide comprehensive visibility across end-to-end business processes, enabling enterprises to make informed decisions that align with sustainability objectives and broader business strategies.

In addition to sectors like automotive and retail, SAP is focusing towards enhancing supply chain resiliency in emerging sectors such as agritech, edtech, healthcare, and manufacturing, particularly within the context of India. The manufacturing sector is of particular interest, given the discernible trend of European companies actively exploring alternatives to China. This strategic focus underscores SAP’s dedication to aiding these industries in fortifying their supply chains, ensuring operational robustness, and fostering sustainability and growth in a dynamically changing global landscape.

In the agritech sector, SAP has harnessed the power of AI to leverage satellite data for rapid and accurate weather forecasting, optimal harvest timing, and monitoring the health of crops or vegetation. This innovation enables farmers to make informed decisions, ensuring their produce reaches its intended destination at the right time. Following the Chandrayaan mission, SAP has expanded its horizons in satellite imaging and the processing of vast datasets with remarkable speed and precision. Automation plays a pivotal role in these advancements, offering new possibilities for revolutionizing how they utilize satellite technology in agriculture and beyond.

Fostering a Resilient Startup Ecosystem

According to Ms. Sindhu Gangadharan, SVP & MD, SAP Labs India and Head, SAP User Enablement “SAP focusses on Quality and not Quantity”. SAP is making substantial investments in nurturing the startup ecosystem. This year, the company is incubating 18 startups as part of a one-year cohort program. Each cohort is carefully curated to address cross-cutting themes such as sustainability, supply chain resilience, or Industry 4.0. SAP selects startups that align with these specific niches, granting them access to an invaluable platform for development.

SAP’s emphasis lies in prioritizing the quality of startups over quantity. Once these startups build their solutions on SAP’s technology platform, they receive certification and gain entry to the SAP Store. This provides them with a direct channel to reach SAP’s extensive customer base. Two standout examples of successful startups emerging from SAP’s startup studio include Skillet, which leverages AI for recruitment processes, and Syook, which focuses on enhancing employee workforce safety. These startups exemplify the innovation and impact fostered within SAP’s startup ecosystem.

In conclusion, SAP’s unwavering commitment to India extends far beyond business operations. It encapsulates a broader vision for technological advancement, environmental responsibility, and the empowerment of startups. With a steadfast focus on innovation, sustainability, and harnessing the power of AI, SAP is poised to play a pivotal role in India’s digital transformation journey. Together, we are not only unlocking India’s potential but also shaping a more resilient, sustainable, and innovative tomorrow.
